My Visit To
Poland

October 9, 1999: Krakow
Reformed Synagogue 1600x1200 (288 KB)

The Reformed Synagogue dates from the 1860's and was renovated several times, most recently in 1924. It was a very progressive institution: weekly sermons were delivered in Polish and German by visiting academics, and women sang alongside men in the choir. The synagogue was unpopular with orthodox Jews, who preferred more traditional services.
