The Battle of Monte Cassino was a turning point in the Allies' push to capture Rome. The "Battle" actually consisted of several battles spread out over a period of four months. Polish troops played an important role in the final, decisive phase of the Battle of Monte Cassino, which was fought in May 1944. In that battle and in related actions, The Second Polish Corps suffered more than 4,000 casualties.
