Poland

October 4, 1999: Warsaw
Plaque on Stawki Street 640x480 (137 KB)

"Warsaw uprising, 1944. Here on the streets of Stawka, Dzika, and Parysowski Square led a trail between Wola and the Old City, which was punctured by the troops of the AK battalion 'Broom' unit 'Radoslaw.' In obstinate battles on August 11th and 12th, 25 troops died together with their general Major Franciszek Mazurkiewicz 'Niebora.' Those who survived continued fighting on the redoubts of Muranowa, Starowka, and Czerniakowa, proving with the shed blood their will to fight for the freedom of Poland."
