Poland

October 4, 1999: Warsaw
Monument to the Ghetto Heroes 1600x1200 (392 KB)

"...the marvelous monument of Natan Rappaport, unveiled April 19 1948, on the fifth anniversary of the outbreak of the Ghetto Uprising... Stone used for the monument, called labradorite, comes from Sweden. An interesting and symbolic detail is the fact that the stone had been ordered by Hitler in 1942. He had hoped to build the Third Reich victory monument with it." -- A Guide to Jewish Warsaw (©1996 Our Roots. All rights reserved.)
