My Visit To
Poland

October 4, 1999: Warsaw
Lejb Osnos House 1600x1200 (410 KB)

"The large house on the corner of the roundabout, still numbered 28, was 28 Twarda Street. It had belonged to Lejb Osnos, who bought it in 1912... Here was Grubsztajn's slaughter house, the Lepman and Ret meat shop, Widerszpal's food store, Merder's dairy products shop, the bakery of Fresz, Lustman's soap factory, Geller's barber shop, Borensztajn's laundry, and Fetman's wine store."

"It survived until... the Uprising in 1944. During some heavy fighting, most of the buildings in that area were destroyed – except for the house at 28 Twarda Street." -- A Guide to Jewish Warsaw (©1996 Our Roots. All rights reserved.)
