My Visit To
Poland

October 7, 1999: Suwalki to Warsaw
Bogusze Memorial 1600x1200 (453 KB)

To my relief, we arrive at the next Bogusze Memorial within a few minutes. I'm surprised to find this fairly well-tended memorial out here in the middle of nowhere, but George tells me that the forests of Poland are dotted with memorials like this, which is a sobering thought. In addition to the approximately three million Polish Jews who were killed during World War II, about three million Polish non-Jews were also killed, which helps to explain the somber ubiquity of memorials to those who died during those tragic years.
